Speaking Part 1: personal preferences

In Part 1 you will answer questions about yourself. Try to make your answers as interesting as possible!

• Use a variety of expressions to talk about your likes, dislikes and interests: don’t just say I like or I don’t like.
• Expand your ideas by giving reasons for your opinions, or by giving examples.

Speaking Part 1: staying calm

• If you need time to think, begin with one of these expressions: Let me think / see … That’s difficult to say, really …
• Don’t rush! Speak slowly and clearly and make sure that you answer the question.
• Try no to leave long silences. An easy way to expand your answers is to give reasons or examples. Use expressions like: reasons: as, because, so, so that, that’s why ; examples: for example, for instance, like, such as

• Listen carefully to each question, and don’t be afraid to ask for it to be repeated.
• Make sure your answers are intersting by using a range of language.
• Talk about your opinions and feelings, and give reasons and examples to support your ideas.
• Make sure you answer the question- Don’t give a speech that you prepared in advance.
